“Zembiec”
5 rounds for time of:
11 back squats, 185 lb.
7 strict burpee pull-ups
400-meter run
During each burpee pull-up perform a strict push-up, jump to a bar that is ideally 12 inches above your max standing reach, and perform a strict pull-up.

Fed Up

When I was a kid, I made pancakes for breakfast almost every weekend.  I’d stand in the kitchen mixing away and my Mom would say from the kitchen table, “make sure you mix half whole wheat flour in with the white flour!”

“Grrrr!” I would think.  Whole wheat flour was gross, it made my pancakes grainy, and it made them discolored.  But whole wheat flour was healthy.

A few years later, I jumped on band wagon.  Whole wheat everything!  If it was a health food…I tried it.  If it was a boxed, processed, packaged health food – I definitely tried it.  Whole wheat, tofu, vegan cheese, low fat nut butters, margarine…you name it.

Now, I look back and chuckle at the way I used to eat but I am also thankful that I was exposed to a different way of eating.  Since eating Paleo and Zone I am healthier both inside and out and I don’t struggle to stay the same size on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.

When I pulled up the video, the clip of the young girl swimming really got to me.  This girl could swim thousands of meters for the rest of her life and she’s not going to get fit, or lose weight.  This is a terrible place to be in at the age of 12.

Learning about Paleo and Zone is a gift and it’s one I try to share with was many people as possible.  Be kind in your pursuit to help others learn about another way of eating as you will absolutely be shot down, teased, made fun of, and in the minority - but they will start to listen.

    I wanted to say thank you for the Zembiec quote on the white board today. Maybe I’m feeling particularly sentimental and reflective today, but I found myself thinking about him in particular and our other heroes as I worked out. Thank you.

    So I have to rant on another topic that I’m FED UP with…shop etiquette.

    If you bleed on your bar, clean it up! if you spill your water, mop it up! if you leave trash/gum out, throw it away! Nicole and Eric and the rest of the Roots staff try very hard to make Roots a top notch shop with the coaching, equipment, and overall experience. I think we could all take a little more time after a WOD to clean up after ourselves. And during a WOD, be mindful of your neighbor in respect to your equipment. We are fortunate that we have so many great classes going on simultaneously. So sometimes space is more limited. How would you feel if somebody dropped a heavy barbell or wall ball right next to you and made you feel unsafe or just interrupted your workout?

    Treat others how you want to be treated— including the shop/equipment.
