Why should you care about Olympic Weightlifting? Because the Olympic lifts – the snatch and the clean & jerk – bring speed, power, flexibility, coordination, agility, accuracy, and balance to your training. The two Olympic lifts are the kings of developing strength in the hips and the transference of strength and power to other sports and activities should make any athlete toss and turn with excitement the night before an Oly Lift WOD. When performed correctly, the lifts are grace and athleticism in perfect balance. When performed incorrectly, these technical movements bring about fierce frustration. Check out this great video of Urik Vardanian totaling 405kg (that’s 891 pounds). For reference, Vardanian weighs 82.5kgs (that’s 181 pounds)!
