The 2016 Spring Challenge kicks off on Monday, April 18th. Whether you have done a Roots challenge in the past or if this is your first rodeo, you’ll find a ton of helpful information below. Please post any questions to comments because, chances are, someone has the same question as you!
What is the Spring Challenge?
At the heart of it, the Spring Challenge is a 8-week Paleo and quantity based food challenge designed to help athletes eat clean for a solid two month period. In addition, the challenge incorporates additional indicators of health and wellness such as sleep, working out, doing mobility, and completing a personal goal.
How can I learn more?
On Wednesday, April 13th we will offer three different opportunities to come and see a presentation on the Spring Challenge and what is involved. The Challenge Chalk Talk will deliver a brief overview of our approach to Paleo and quantity, review the challenge packet materials, and end with a presentation from Laura Ligos at InsideTracker.
What is InsideTracker?
InsideTracker is a company that tests and examines blood work. Benchmarks in the shop, lean body mass, and looking good naked are great indicators of health, but equally important to one’s health and wellness are indicators of what’s going on under the hood.
Here’s an excerpt from CrossFit’s “What is Fitness”:
Done right, fitness provides a great margin of protection against the ravages of time and disease. Where you find otherwise examine the fitness protocol, especially diet. Fitness is and should be “super-wellness.” Sickness, wellness, and fitness are measures of the same entity. A fitness regimen that doesn’t support health is not CrossFit.
For this challenge, we have partnered with InsideTracker so athletes can get blood work done. This is not a required part of the challenge, but we recommend that if you have the means, to get a before or after test. Athletes who sign-up for the challenge will receive a 20% discount code on Thursday of this week.
How much does it cost?
$40.

What if I have (insert important social event such as wedding, bachelorette party, company dinner here) during the challenge? Can I still participate or will I be out?
Our goal is not to show you that to achieve health and wellness you must live like a hobbit for 8 weeks. There are mechanisms built into the challenge to allow individuals to make choices and not be “out” of the challenge. So yes, you’re good to attend your bachelorette party or go on your annual guys mountain bike trip.
