The Winter 2010 Roots Rowing Program

We are pleased to announce the 2010 Roots Winter Rowing Program.  We are even more excited to announce that Lauren Rubini will be the coach!

Rowing Clinic – Erging Stronger & Longer

The focus of this 1-hour clinic limited to 6 athletes is to learn proper technique, ratio, power, length, and control on the erg.  This clinic will be helpful to athletes who want to perform better in the workouts and those who are interested in the Concept2 Winter Challenge (see below).

Sunday, November 7th – 9:00am & 10:15am
Tuesday, November 9th – 7:00pm
If the Sunday clinic fills up, we will add a second clinic at 10:00am.

Cost: $11.00.  Sign-up on MBO.

Concept 2 Holiday Challenge Program

The Concept 2 Holiday Challenge is to row 100,000 meters between November 25th and December 24th.  To learn more about this challenge, click here.

Roots will offer a Concept 2 Holiday training program.  The program will consist of 4 coached workouts and open shop erging times for athletes who sign-up for the challenge. Sign-up here.

The program includes:

  • Four coached workouts led by Lauren.  These sessions meet on Sunday at 9:00am, begin November 28th, and will consist of 8,000 meter workouts
  • Four additional opportunities each week to accumulate more meters toward your 100,000 meter goal (Mondays at 7:00pm, Wednesdays at 11:30am, Thursdays at 7:00pm, and Fridays at 8:30am).  This shop time is available only to athletes participating in the challenge and can be used only for the purpose of rowing.
  • Two programmed workouts each week for athletes to utilize while erging on their own

Cost: $60.00

Pre-requisite: To participate in this program, Roots athletes must first complete a Rowing Clinic (see above).

Lauren Rubini

Lauren Rubini began rowing on the east coast in 7th grade. She raced for her local high school, T.C. Williams (Remember the Titans), in Alexandria, Virginia as well as at the Olympic Festival and Junior World Championships. She attended Boston University on a full athletic scholarship for rowing while pursuing her dream of making the US National Team. During her time at Boston University, she was invited to both National Team Sweep and Sculling training centers.  Lauren also participated in the infamous erg competition (infamous if you spend and enjoy time on the erg and want to take it to the next level), C.R.A.S.H.- B. Sprints in Boston qualifying for the women’s open final event. Lauren continues to race in both sweep and sculling events and has coached at all levels. Currently, Lauren coaches for Boulder Community Rowing.  She is looking forward to putting time in on the erg off the water with fellow Roots Crew (double meaning…) members.  Lauren thinks erging is kick ass!
