Happy Anniversary Roots! – Four Years    August 29 2013


“The Chief”
Max rounds in 3 minutes of:
3 Power cleans (135 lb)
6 Push-ups
9 Squats
Rest 1 minute then repeat, for a total of 5 cycles.

The Chief is a classic hero workout in CrossFit.  It was also adopted as the Roots Anniversary workout after it was done at the Grand Opening in 2009.  We do The Chief every year on the day of the Anniversary Party.  While this is an individual workout, it takes on an incredibly “team” sensation.

Each year the Anniversary Party brings about a different emotion than the year before for both Eric and me.

In year zero it was definitely “can we really make this happen!?”

Looking back on the past five years and watching the shop grow into a strong, supportive, and dedicated community of athletes – the emotion this year is gratitude.

Year One.

We are grateful for you, the athletes, who through a common bond of CrossFit have grown and intertwined yourselves into a tight-knit community of athletes who are proud to call Roots your CrossFit home and who would bend over backwards to help one another out.

Year Two.

Year Two.

Over the years you have trusted the coaching staff with your fears and concerns, you allowed us to nudge you to be better, you made it through the hard times because you simply wouldn’t give up, you inspired us, the coaches, to be better, and you allowed us to celebrate with you in your triumphs and excitement.  To work with a group of athletes that is this dedicated is every coach’s dream.

Year Three.

And we are grateful for the staff who has trusted us to make this work and in turn has turned coaching into a profession.  You are the very best at what you do (but you can always get better;).  You are a team, you push each other to be better at what you do, you hold each other accountable, and you support and look out for each other in a way any parent would hope of their family.

    Damn I look young in that first picture…and soft. I also remember having my first ever ripped hands from some little workout that Nicole had come up with in her garage that day. Good times.     I agree with everyone on all accounts – I cannot believe I am in all of the photos. I certainly wasn’t an early adopter. But I do thank you for all of the changes in my life and the community you’ve created. I don’t think we’ll make tonight – but I particularly think the proliferation of children is funny.
