2017 CrossFit Open: Week 4 Guide

We are SO EXCITED for Week 4 of the CrossFit Open because we’ve got a STELLAR line-up!
We start with an on-site wine tasting with the great folks at Boulder Wine Merchant and pair it with handsome food from Biju’s Little Curry Shop. Finally, we layer on top the tremendous work of SufferBetter and the charitable donation efforts of this year’s 2017 CrossFit Open to the Achilles International local Boulder Chapter. It’s a recipe for a four star evening! Oh, and we’ll also do 17.4!
(and, for the Dudes wondering what happened to Dudes Week, Rhone will be here Week 5!).

SufferBetter and Achilles International

This year we are honored to partner with the one and only Suffer Better for the CrossFit Roots 2017 CrossFit Open t-shirt. Many of you pre-ordered the tee and trucker and they will be available for pick-up on Friday evening! In addition, SufferBetter will be on-site to raffle off stickers and tees as well as talk about their awesome mission.

100% of all tee and trucker proceeds will be donated to the local chapter of Achilles International. If you pre-ordered a SufferBetter tee or trucker, they’ll be available for pick-up at Friday Night Lights!

Wine Tasting with Boulder Wine Merchant

Riddle me this, “How many Master Sommeliers in the world can also do a muscle-up?”

We’re not sure but we’ll give you a hint, not many. Worldwide, 236 professionals have earned the title of Master Sommelier, and our very own Roots athlete and local owner of Boulder Wine Merchant – Brett Zimmerman, holds this highly coveted distinction – AND he can do a muscle-up. Boulder Wine Merchant will be on-site tasting hand selected wines to pair with dinner from Biju’s Little Curry Shop. They’ll also raffle off a few neat prizes for the 21 and over crowd.

Dinner From Biju’s Little Curry Shop

Staying true to south Indian food, Biju’s Little Curry Shop focuses on bringing a new style of Indian cuisine to Denver. Freshly made every day, they combine true southern style ingredients and throw in a little spice to give it a kick. View the menu below and place your order!

Week 4 Warm-up Coach – Kirk

Each week the warm-up area is stocked with a Roots coach who is affectionately called – The Warm-up Coach! As you all know we will be running WODs in heats through the night which means you’ll be responsible for warming yourself up but have no fear, a Warmup Coach will be near!

In addition to the coaches that are present and floating around to help you with the Open, each week there is a designated Warmup Coach (WC) in the warmup area.  The WC will change each week we’ll introduce them here, in the weekly guide.

The WC is there to answer any questions you have regarding how to warmup (a specific warmup will be written on the whiteboard), discuss movement standards, chat about “to scale or not to scale”, how to approach the workout, give you a pep talk, and all that good stuff.  They will also gather you and the rest of your heat minutes before it is time for your heat.

Step by Step Guide to Week 4

1. Watch the LIVE Announcement on Thursday night at 6pm to learn the workout. Go here to watch or come by the shop, we’ll have it on!
2. Tune into Facebook LIVE at 7pm to hear the coaches breakdown the workout, talk about how we’ll run it in heats, and answer any questions you have. Simply visit our Facebook page and click to view the live presentation.
3. Sign-up on MBO for a heat time for Friday night. Heat times will be posted by 8pm in MBO on Thursday evenings. If you can’t make Friday night, be sure to sign-up for a regular group class.
4. Show up on Friday. We recommend arriving 30 minutes before your heat begins so you have plenty of time to change clothes, check-in with the WC, and get ready.
5. Do the workout!
6. Taste wine, eat curry, BYOB, smile, you did it!
