December 2024 Newsletter: Holiday Events and More!

Dear Roots Crew,

Over the past 15 years, I have often heard members from all walks of life express that they do not fit the “normal” profile of a CrossFitter. Some feel nervous in class because everyone’s been doing this longer; others were top-notch athletes in another arena and are unsure about their abilities in this setting, or they might be newcomers who are just starting to work out, realizing there is a lot of work to do.

This self-doubt about belonging in class or within CrossFit has always rattled me because the qualities that define a CrossFitter are not related to physical abilities or capacity. To be a CrossFitter, you have to be willing to work and grind, accept coaching, put in the consistent effort to achieve the results you seek, and, yes, embrace the challenges that come with it. If you can own these elements of the program, you will thrive – because CrossFit works for everyone.

These is the unifying characteristic of the community at Roots. We are committed to hard work and we value the respect we have for those who also put in the work – no matter where you are on the road to health and performance.

So all of that is to say, you belong here. We’re glad you’re here, and we can’t wait to see what you do in 2025.

Please take a moment to dive into December’s Newsletter. From the 12 Days of CrossFit Roots to the annual holiday party, 2024 isn’t quite over yet!

Thanks for a full-throttle 2024,
Nicole

Chad1000x in Review

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Monday, November 11, as we honored Chad’s life and raised awareness for suicide prevention. With 176 members completing the workout, Roots donated $880 to The Step Up Foundation, which was matched by an anonymous donor for a total of $1,760.

Congratulations, Lisa!

I am thrilled to announce that our very own Lisa Covey PASSED the Certified CrossFit Trainer exam, earning her the title of CrossFit Level 3 Trainer!

Lisa began coaching at Roots in 2016 as a substitute coach and has since become a staple of Roots coaching and culture. Always prepared, articulate, and exacting in her coaching, Lisa sets the example on the shop floor as both athlete and coach.

The CrossFit Level 3 credential is held by just a few thousand trainers worldwide. The credential is designed for an experienced individual who wants to demonstrate advanced CrossFit coaching knowledge and ability. To earn this credential, candidates candidates must meet specific eligibility requirements, pass the CCFT examination, and commit to a long-term standard of professional accountability, which includes completing continuing education. The CCFT credential is accredited by the American National Standards Institute.

As a part-time coach, Lisa took on this next step to deepen her understanding and validate everything she has worked hard to achieve.

In addition to her work as a coach, Lisa’s primary work is as a Systems Engineer and Technical Lead at Lockheed Martin. She is an avid theatergoer and supporter of the arts. She is a badass athlete and former collegiate swimmer who wears a smile across her face that is welcoming and loving – but also means business when it’s time to train.

Lisa, we are so incredibly proud of you! Thank you for everything you do for the athletes at CrossFit Roots.

Nutrition Challenge Winner: Jess Singo

Congratulations to the CrossFit Roots Food & Fitness Challenge Winner, Jess Singo!

Jess joined CrossFit Roots on October 7 and two weeks later she had finished her Foundations Course with Dave and had jumped into the Food & Fitness Challenge hosted by CrossFit Roots and Erica’s Edge.

Not only did Jess win the FFC, Erica had this to say:

By making positive changes in her health not through “dieting,” but through nourishment and balance, and by combining that with kick ass workouts at CrossFit Roots, Jess lost the highest percent body fat of all the FFCs in 2024! That’s out of hundreds of people. She also did this during a Challenge that included Halloween and Thanksgiving.

Talk about a way to the end the year, right? How much change are we talking? 7.4% to be exact. Not only did Jess LOSE 16.3 pounds of fat in 5 weeks, but she also GAINED 5.3 pounds of muscle.

Congratulations, Jess!

Updated Payment Options

A few years ago, we asked all members to switch to ACH (e-check) for their CrossFit Roots payments. Starting on January 1st, 2025, you’ll now have two options for your form of payment.

Option 1: ACH – Pay via e-check with a checking or savings account. This option helps our small business avoid extraordinary credit card fees. If you haven’t switched to ACH yet, please consider doing so. We still pay fees on ACH transactions, but they are significantly less than credit card fees.

Option 2: Credit Card For members who would like to pay with a credit card, we will continue to offer the option to do so but with a portion of the processing fee added to the consumer charge. This means that if you choose to pay with a credit card, your charge will include a small additional fee to cover part of the company’s costs when processing payment via credit card. Starting January 1, 2025, if you would like to pay with a credit card, a 3% processing fee will be added to each transaction.

To update your payment method in the Zen Planner Member App, tap on your profile, click View Profile, Payment Methods, and then + Add Payment Account.
