Hey Roots Crew,
Turns out one December newsletter wasn’t enough… so welcome to December, Part 2.
First up: you might be wondering, “Who the hell is going to coach me while Lindsay and Connor are out?” Good question. And don’t worry — just like when there aren’t enough rowers, we’ve already got a plan to stagger the workout – we also have a plan for how we’re going to cover their classes!
I’m fired up to welcome James Cho (CF-L3) as our interim coach on the Roots floor. He’s sharp, he’s experienced, he’s hilarious, and he’s jumping in starting January 5th. You can learn more about him below, and get a sense of his humor…
Next: a little January spoiler we couldn’t hold in. Fullswift Physio has opened a satellite office right inside the shop! Dr. Kyle Rogus, DPT (and Roots athlete), will be in-house, working with athletes in the office and on the shop floor.
One of the things I aim to create in our community health efforts is a strong network of care — people who understand what we do here and support how we train. We’re fortunate to have medical professionals like Dr. Seng, Dr. Ware, and Dr. Drasler in our classes, who provide valuable insights and care. We’re now excited to have Kyle in the mix. Ideally, you never need PT… but if you do, you’ve got someone who truly gets CrossFit and athletes.
Now, quick detour. I love football. I detest getting pummeled with pharmaceutical ads at every commercial break. It’s a good reminder of how far we’ve drifted from our own agency to take control of our health. Did you know that the United States and New Zealand are the only two countries allowing Direct-to-Consumer marketing for prescription drugs!?
Enter: the January Food Challenge. No gimmicks. No magic pills. Just real food, real habits, real results. And yes, after the holiday season, most people are ready for a hard reset. We got you. Watch the video, check out the details, and jump in.
Need more inspiration? The newest Athlete Spotlight is live — and this one brings the heat. Sit down with Austin Moss and hear how he went from zero rope climbs to plenty, from 31% bodyfat to not even close, and made the conscious decision to live differently. It’s worth the watch, but let’s be honest, ALL the Athlete Spotlights are worth a watch!
There’s inspiration everywhere in this gym. But here’s the reminder we all need: motivation is fickle. It comes and goes. What wins is the long game — showing up, doing the basics, and stacking consistent effort over time. That’s where real health and real fitness live.
Stay the course. And root for each other.
Nicole
