Dear Roots Crew,
It’s time to head into the 2026 CrossFit Open!
Last Friday, we handed out a letter after group classes that Eric and I wrote to you. If you didn’t get a copy, you can read it here. It explains why we do The Open at Roots and invites you to register and participate. We hope you’ll take the time to read it and please don’t hesitate to talk to Eric, me, or any of the coaches at Roots if you want more information!
Be sure to read all the way to the end to learn about all the great stuff going on at the shop: from the Olympic Weightlifting clinic to our new local business sponsor Colorado Concussion Clinic, the Open prep class, private training, and a save the date!
Root for each other,
Nicole

The 2026 CrossFit Open is Here!
The 2025 CrossFit Open is coming FEBRUARY 26TH and registration is open NOW!
We’re bringing back the best of the best: Intramural teams, weekly prizes, and tons of fun! The Open is for EVERYONE, and we want YOU to participate – whether you’ve been doing CrossFit for a long time or just started.
Trust us. You don’t want to miss out. Don’t believe us? Ask an athlete in class for the lowdown.
For now, here are the four things you need to know or be on the lookout for in the next couple of weeks:
Start Here: What is the CrossFit Open and Why Should I Sign Up?
It’s Easy to Participate
Come to ANY group class for three consecutive Fridays from February 27th-March 13th, and we’ll take care of the rest! All you need to do is register, and we’ll take care of the rest!
We Run an In-House Fun Competition
Register by February 14th to be included in the Roots Intramural Open. Every year, CrossFit Roots is among the top affiliates nationwide to participate in the Open, and we are proud of our history and commitment to The Open. A large part of our history with The Open has involved running an intramural team competition in the gym. This competition brings a fun, spring-fling vibe to the shop as teams take on additional challenges, including trivia, wine tasting, and hobby horse, to name a few.

Take the 2026 Judges Course
Soon, you’ll start to see many CrossFit Judges Course certificates grace the front desk as we head into The Open. Like proud parents hanging their kids’ artwork on the fridge, the coaching staff couldn’t be happier than when our athletes choose to take the course.
We would love for you to take the judges’ course. It will help us run a great Open and make you a better athlete by providing another learning option for understanding the movements you perform each day.

Is there an FAQ? YES
Private Training for YOU
Still chasing your first pull-up, muscle-up, or rope climb? Want to dial in your squat mechanics (we love squats!)? Annoyed by your lack of progress? Tired of tripping on jump ropes or just want some additional 1:1 focus?

Roots coaches offer private training to help take your skills and fitness to the next level. Attending group class 4-5 times/week builds a solid foundation, and athletes who work individually with our coaches master beyond the basics.
Private training can be ongoing, weekly, monthly, or as needed, and is a great addition to a weekly class attendance schedule. It can be done 1-on-1 or alongside 1-2 athletes.
There are a number of reasons an athlete might consider working 1-on-1 with a coach:
• To gain a specific skill such as a pull-up, kipping pull-up, muscle up, or handstand walking
• To provide additional structure and accountability during a busy work travel season
• To address a nagging injury or a movement quality limitation
• Because they want to improve faster
• To address a weakness in a coached, structured, and measurable way
• To bring additional accountability and structure to their progress

Nutrition: Why Most Americans Fail at Nutrition (and how to Fix it)
The food pyramid just got a huge update (flip) and we couldn’t be more happy. Processed and refined carbs are OUT and REAL FOOD is in. Many Roots members are half way through EC Synkowski’s 800g Challenge which serves as the perfect foundation for the recent food pyramid update.
EC joined The Read State podcast to dish on this simple yet effective way to incorporate 800 grams of fruits and vegetables into your daily routine—without cutting out the foods you love. Whether you’re participating in the challenge or need a reset, give this episode a listen!
Intro to Olympic Weightlifting Workshop
Just because the snatch and clean & jerk are technical lifts doesn’t mean they can’t be learned! The Olympic lifts are unmatched in developing power and strength, so we’re excited to offer a half-day workshop designed especially for beginners.
This clinic is for you if:
- You are familiar with the lifts, but they feel awkward or mysterious
- You’re a beginner lifter who wants dedicated time learning, or re-learning, the basics
- You want to dial in your technique to hit your next PR
- You want tools you can remember so the next time the lifts show up in class, you feel confident
Join Amy for a half-day workshop to dial in the basics of the snatch and clean & jerk. Athletes will work on stance, grip, and positions, timing, and coordination, and have the opportunity to put their new skills into practice with dedicated time to explore both lifts.
- Date: Saturday, February 21
- Time: 11am-4pm
- Cost: $100
Spaces are limited, email [email protected] to reserve your spot!

Open Prep Class!
Join Nicole at 12:30 on Fridays for the next three weeks for the Open Prep class! This class will revisit (see: repeat!) past Open workouts and focus on elements to help you get the most out of each workout, such as: how to warm-up during the Open, how to strategize a workout for YOU, how to cool down, and more!
While this class won’t make you decidedly fitter for the Open (it’s just three classes!) it will provide a good prelude to the Open in a fun and informative class environment. All are welcome!
This class will replace the regularly scheduled 12:30 group class on Fridays for the next three weeks. Reserve in ZenPlanner!
Save the Date!
Mark your calendars now for the 2026 Open Celebration and Team Trophy Ceremony!
March 28, 4-6pm, Rayback Collective in Boulder.
