School’s out, the heat is on, and that can mean only one thing – the return of the Cool, Cruel Summer Series at Roots!

What is the Cool Cruel Summer?

The Cool Cruel Summer Series runs throughout the summer on the third Thursday of each month (June-September). The coaches selected four fun and challenging workouts (listed below!) for this year’s festivities. Afterward, folks stay to hang out, socialize, and enjoy summer. It’s a fun twist on a normal evening at Roots!
There is no formal class start time and the evening runs from 4-7pm. The coaches will organize waves of athletes to start together as well as guide warm-up and scaling options, as always. Athletes can come in and do the workout anytime between 4:00 and 7:00pm (with the last wave starting at 6:20pm).
This is a fun, laid-back environment that puts the summer fun into an evening at Roots.

The Seven

Seven rounds for time of:
7 Handstand push-ups
135 pound Thruster, 7 reps
7 Knees to elbows
245 pound Deadlift, 7 reps
7 Burpees
7 Kettlebell swings, 2 pood
7 Pull-ups

Lumberjack 20

20 Deadlifts (275lbs)
Run 400m
20 KB swings (2pood)
Run 400m
20 Overhead Squats (115lbs)
Run 400m
20 Burpees
Run 400m
20 Pullups (Chest to Bar)
Run 400m
20 Box jumps (24″)
Run 400m
20 DB Squat Cleans (45lbs each)
Run 400m

Partner Eva

Five rounds for time of:
Run 800 meters
2 pood Kettlebell swing, 30 reps
30 Pull-ups


9 rounds for time with a partner of:
9 bar muscle-ups
11 clean and jerks, 155/105 lb.
50-yard buddy carry
Share the work with your partner however you choose with only one person working at a time. If you can’t find a partner, perform 5 reps of each exercise per round and find a heavy sandbag to carry.
