As we head into the final week of the 2026 CrossFit Open, I wanted to set the stage for the next phase of competition – QUARTERFINALS!
I am thrilled that Quarterfinals have returned for 2026. Quarterfinals are the second wave of competition after the Open, and for athletes worldwide who finished in the top 25%. In 2024, over 35 Roots athletes qualified for Quarterfinals!
Let me be clear – this is a HUGE accomplishment and one that we are proud to celebrate. We want to encourage athletes who have earned entry to this next phase to participate in this Type2-fun-filled weekend.
Any athlete who finishes in the top 25% of individuals and age groups worldwide will advance from the Open to the Quarterfinals in 2026. If you finish in the top 25%, you will receive an invitation from the CrossFit Games to the next phase.
CrossFit Roots will run quarterfinals in some group classes and throughout the weekend.
So you can start to think about what this next phase would look like, or maybe give you a little nudge to send it on that Week 3 workout!, I wanted to pass along some initial details.
If you have any questions, please reach out me on email so we can discuss!
QUARTERFINALS DETAILS
When are Quarterfinals?
March 26–30, 2026
How do I know if I qualified?
You will receive an email from CrossFit after the score submissions have closed for Week 3 of the Open. The top 25% of men, women, and age-group athletes from the 2026 Open will qualify. You can check your worldwide placing on games.crossfit.com or on the CrossFit app.
What is the format?
It’s very similar to the Open! The main difference is that you will have five days to complete 4-5 workouts (we don’t know exactly how many yet!). You get to do the next phase of competition right at home!
What is the schedule?
This is where things are a bit up in the air. The workouts are announced on Thursday of the competition, around lunchtime. From here, we will create a schedule for completing the workouts.
Here’s a SAMPLE of how we have scheduled it in the past:
Workout 1: Group class Friday
Workout 2: Group class Saturday
Workout 3: Group class Sunday, OR Sunday afternoon
Workout 4: Group class Monday OR Saturday afternoon
Group Class, and Additional Times
We will offer the workouts in some group classes and outside of class. Once the workouts are released, we will post a schedule for which workouts will be offered in classes and which will be done at additionally scheduled times throughout the weekend.
In many instances, we have hosted some of the workouts in the afternoons on Saturday and Sunday. Athletes who cannot make those times will have options to do the workouts with a judge during Open Shop or when one class only is going on at Roots.
Video Needs
Please note: if you may qualify for Semis and therefore need to record your workouts, you must do so outside of group class. We cannot support videoed workout needs during group classes. Additionally, you will need to have ONE person running your video AND a DIFFERENT person to judge you (those roles cannot be filled by the same person).
