135 pound Clean and Jerk, 30 reps
Snatch 135 pounds, 30 reps
Today’s the last day. The last day of workouts at 1980 8th Street, Roots’ second home. Many famous clubs in sports history have moved homes – the Yankees moved to a new stadium in 2009, the San Francisco Giants moved to a new home in 2000 – and both clubs went on to see their athletes do incredible things. We too will be a club that gets a new home and goes on to see its athletes do incredible things.
Over the past few months, many folks have asked me if I’ll be sad to leave the place at 8th and Pearl. Sure, there’s no doubt because there are a ton of memories here and the combination of nostalgia and change bring out many emotions. I’ll probably even get a little teary eyed at some point tomorrow. But at the heart of everything we’ve done for the past three years, every decision and every change, has been our athletes and what we think will be best for them. How will we enable them to achieve health, fitness, and longevity – based on world class coaching, hard work, and community. I know, without the slightest bit of doubt, that our new space will continue to move our athletes toward those goals.
From the ability to maintain our small class structure, to more workout space, to small conveniences such as showers, I know we will increase the potential of our athletes overnight.
I am so incredibly proud to be able to call the Roots Crew our athletes. You inspire me every single day and for that I thank you.
Leave it all out there today at 1980 8th Street and get ready for a bang up opener at the new space on Friday.
