Roots Couture Hits the Runway at Fashion Week

MILAN, december 26th

Once upon a time, in the pre-gimmicky age of fitness, athletes dreamed of being Rocky Balboa in gray cotton running across Russia in the bitter cold.  Today, Colorado based designer RooTS is showing that throwback doesn’t mean a drop in performance.  At this year’s Fashion Week, RooTS  showed that it has a way of taking sportswear styles like zip up hoodies and sweatpants and making them say “wear me, it’s fashionable.”  And he’s paired them with creative combinations of baseball caps and tees that transcend the boundaries between what is workout attire and what screams to be worn to a night out on Pearl Street.

RooTS has always flipped the bird to the age of tech tees, wicking fibers, late night TV fitness ploys, treadmills, and shoes that promise a percent increase in strength.  It’s always been a line screams, “It’s ok to workout in Chuck Taylors and a cotton sweatshirt – it won’t affect your workout, duh.”

RooTS dared to do what no designer has done since neon ruled the 80s – it offered the same zip hoodie in not 2 but 8 different colors and said to it’s athletes, “you choose.”  Greens, blues, organes, blacks, purples, and pinks flooded the shop.   And, in the post pre-order world it kept the standard gray for down to business classic style.

Baseball caps offer a new avenue for RooTS which has traditionally focused on upper body garments.  Its sleak cut and low profile design make it a win for any head.  And then there’s the sweatpants.  The 2011 version paled in comparison to this year’s success at mixing warmth and coolness.

The 2013 Winter Apparel pre-orders are in and can be picked up at the shop!  Standard colors of hoodies, sweatpants, and baseball caps are available HERE.
