Three Pull-up Inventory

The Marine Corps recently pushed back its new requirement that female recruits be able to do 3 pull-ups after finding that more than 55% of its females could not complete the standard.

As a show of hands, how many females at Roots can do – 1 pull-up, 2 pull-ups, or 3 or more pull-ups?

That irritates me. Decreasing the standard pisses me off. How about encouraging female cadets to increase their functional fitness to meet the standard and exceed it?

The Marine Corps didn’t decrease the standard. They postponed the implementation of the new standard but will still be using the same minimum of 3 strict pull-ups (no kiping is allowed) when it is implemented for women which will be the same as the male standard. Failing any portion of the physical fitness test can have serious repercussions on your career.

Did anyone else note that 3 pull ups is the standard for men as well?
Years ago the Army decreased the distance females were required to throw a training grenade to inside the lethal range of a live grenade. The definition of self defeating.
It’s just like counting missed reps or partial range of motion – you’re only cheating yourself.
