Benchmark Series 2016 Skills

As part of the 2015 Benchmark Series we included five skill tests. We trained each of those skills weekly in class either within the structure of a workout or as an accessory element to the hour class.

The skills were selected based on a variety of inputs. We selected skills that are consistently seen in the CrossFit Open. Many individuals want to do well in the Open and a large factor of that has to do with the ability to rep out the following: toes-to-bar, chest-to-bar pull-ups, handstand push-ups, and wallballs.

In addition, we chose rope climbs to round out the five, as this is a skill that many people at the gym would like to have in their back pocket and one that takes time to develop.

Right now, we’re working to prepare the 2015/16 Benchmark Series and would like to hear from you. What skills would you like to work on this year? Skills that we will consider are those that are seen in the CrossFit Open, gymnastics and or bodyweight movements, and those that often appear in high repetitions in workouts (wallballs, kettlebell swings) that can be set-up quickly in the structure of our hour classes (taking no more than 6 minutes total).

We will absolutely repeat some of our skills so if you would like to keep working on a skill, please post that as well.

Please post your requests to comments.

I wouldn’t be opposed to keeping a lot of the same skills, because they show up in the Open – and selfishly I’d love some of these to stay the same because I’ve only been able to work on wallballs in the last year.

I sure would not mind any repeat of T2B, chest to bar pull ups and hand stand push-ups again. Bring pregnant and having a baby seems to have limited my full engagement (I know that’s not the case for all pregnant women!). Let’s face it, there’s plenty of other stuff I could work on, though – double unders, muscle ups and rope climbs?
