Sugar, Cocaine, Heroin Equally Strong Addictions, Study Suggests

Last night at the Paleo Showdown Wrap-up we presented an ordered list of the foods we think you should avoid.  First on the list, SUGAR. We specifically remember six weeks ago detailing to the group the foods not allowed in the Paleo Showdown.  After listing grains, dairy, and legumes with little noise or objection from the audience, there was a collective GASP from the group when we stated that all sugars, including maple syrup, honey, and agave nectar, were not allowed in the Paleo Showdown.  Addicted much?

In short, sugar is the devil.  It depresses the body’s immune system opening the door to a number of serious diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, arthritis, and depression.

Sugar is in everything! Of course it’s in obvious foods such as candy bars, sodas, and ice cream but did you know that sugar is also found in deli meat, italian sausage, and spaghetti sauce?  Try finding bacon not cured with sugar.

In what foods have you unexpectedly found sugar?  Post to comments.

Thanks for the lift today, Nicole. If I look closely at that pic, my heals are slightly above two cinderblocks. Standard US cinderblocks are 8” high, so I’m probably close to 17-18”. I looked up a vert jump calculator for grins and of course, it only evaluates performance for athletes under 30. 18” is average for a 30 year old. Let’s see…17” at 44? I’ll take it.

i found sugar in tropical skittles… howd that get in there?!
    jk

But I did recently read a tidbit from an article that was disturbing.. quoted from a book called “The World is Fat” which is all about obesity outweighing hunger in the world. It said that the average American consumes 400 calories a day from beverages alone…
I’d take a wild guess and say thats probably from white sugar ..
So if you do the math ..
    1g Sugar= 4 calories just as 1g carb=~4 calories
    400 calories/4 calories per gram of sugar= 100 g of sugar! gross!
