Ski Passes
Alright kids, it’s almost that time of year. Time to start thinking about the coming winter months and where you’ll be shredding snow when it gets cold. Are you going to stay local, tear up Copper/Winterpark, or rock the 5 Mountain Pass? Weekday skier or weekender? Lift tickets or pass? Board or ski, xc or skate?
So not so much about ski passes (although for the record, this is the winter that I go from being a telemark pansy to rippin’ the shit out of the mountains…) but Scott G tweeted this link yesterday and it raised my hackles this morning. Check it out if you want to raise your blood pressure this morning: http://www.gnolls.org/2199/you-are-a-radical-and-so-am-i-paleo-reaches-the-ominous-stage-3/
Highlights include a math lesson on why processed food is so cheap to buy at the grocery store even though the real cost of producing those products is MUCH higher. I’ll give you a hint: it’s because you and I have already hugely subsidized the overproduction of the grain and corn that is used to produce them as well as the corporations that manufacture them.
Combine the taxes we pay to subsidize the production of Fruit Loops with the cost of medical care to take care of all the people who get sick from eating this stuff and it seems like we might be on our way to solving a little deficit problem in our country…
Enough ranting…I have to go get the bacon out of the oven 🙂
So true, Tracie. Rant ON!
Someday a whistle-blower is going to disclose that the so-called food companies had hard evidence that their products cause chronic disease. Then, Coke, Pepsi, Taco Bell and the rest can take their rightful place next to the tobaco industry.
Hey athletes competing in the CF Open this weekend, does anybody know if there is an entry fee for spectators? It doesn’t say on the website. I want to come on Saturday!
And here’s a rebuttal to the US News Report on the “Best Diets” where Paleo was dissed.

Molly: I am going – I haven’t heard anything about spectator fees.
Last season was horrible driving up and down I-70 on the weekends, so we will probably skip the season pass this year. We’ll be free agents without any strong loyalties to any particular mountain, so if you’ve got a pass (or don’t) and want to hit the slopes, we’d be happy to go for the day. Brian and I both snowboard.
As usual, we’ll get the WP pass and the CB Card (visiting our son in Crusted Butt as usual). Lots more AT skiing this year, though, so not sure if the pass will pay for itself.
I am going with 5 Mtn., 2 hut trips along with some BackCountry Berthoud and Silverton!
I am considering not getting a Colorado Pass for the first time in 8…maybe 9 seasons…and heading to Eldora. I-70 traffic turns me into a serious Succubus, also I enjoying sleeping in on the weekends just as much as I like to snowboard. I’ll also be getting the “CB Card” – discount on skiing in Crested Butte. Anyone else headed to Eldora?
I may be joining you in that plan, K. Also, I have a couple of really good skate skiing buddies who have promised to get me up and flying on that this winter. And Eldora has a great x-country set up. Woo hoo!!!
Ah, it’s that time of year again when talk turns to season passes & gear. You know what that means… it’s time for GNAR! http://unofficialnetworks.com/gnar/ watch it, memorize it and rip the shit out of this winter!
FYI – I’m the best commenter in this thread.
Hey Eric Christensen, I can’t belive you’re a pro commenter?? I’m SO much better than you!
The Pro Call Out!? Some serious GNAR points for that. Seriously, best movie to kick off winter. Team Roots trip to a ski movie – like TGR or MSP?
Colorado Pass + backcountry!! Bring on TELE season!!
I am hoping to get more skate days in this year. Night skating up at Eldora is a ton of fun.
