Location: CrossFit Roots – Boulder, Colorado
Position Type: Interim Coaching Position (15-20 hours per week)

Overview:
CrossFit Roots, a CrossFit affiliate in Boulder, CO, is seeking a driven and enthusiastic individual for a 3-month interim coaching position. CrossFit Roots will be short one coach for the months of January through March, as one of its full-time employees is on maternity leave. The aim of the interim position is to fill the gap with an experienced coach who wishes to learn and develop in a new environment.
The position is immersive, hands-on, and operates in a professional CrossFit coaching environment. The coach will contribute heavily to our team. They will work alongside a team of experienced coaches who have an ongoing commitment to deepening their understanding and execution of effective individual and group training methods, athlete development, and gym operations.
This interim position is ideal for a current CrossFit Level 1, 2, or 3 trainer who aspires to make coaching and affiliate ownership their career, or anyone interested in contributing to a fun, high-energy, CrossFit environment.
The ideal candidate is a CrossFitter with group class coaching experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and execute high-quality, safe workouts using the CrossFit methodology. (Consistent hard work + well-designed programming + premier coaching abilities = the only way to affect lasting change. No gimmicks or quick fixes please.)
- Respond to member needs. Provide personalized experiences. Build positive relationships. (Genuine care and love of craft = happy, healthy people.)
- Create and foster a supportive environment where the buy-in is training and the pay off is the Roots community, connection, and living life in real time. (Cue the kumbaya hymns and encore with “Come Together” because that’s what we’re campaigning for over here, so join the club.)
- Attend and contribute to bi-monthly scheduled meetings.
- Be a CrossFitter. Do CrossFit. (No fringe believers, please.)
- Represent CrossFit Roots’ culture, coaching and athlete standards, and gym etiquette. (Be a good person. And “do the right things, for the right reasons, for the right people”…thanks for that one Greg)
- Develop and refine lesson plans
- Coach 1-on-1 Foundations Sessions
- Attend group class 3 days per week
- Support gym operations, including member services, communication, and current events
- Other duties as assigned
Learning Possibilities:
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of group coaching techniques and class flow
- Improve movement assessment, cueing, and correction skills
- Learn to scale workouts appropriately for different populations with blistering accuracy and precision
- Build confidence in coaching individuals and small groups
- Develop interpersonal skills and a professional coaching presence
- Understand affiliate business operations, behind-the-scenes work, and community engagement
- Learn how a busy affiliate runs multiple classes at the same time
- Dive into specialized programs such as Legends, CrossFit Kids, CrossFit Teens and more
- Be coached by and learn from multiple CrossFit Level 4 Coaches
Requirements:
- Strong interest in and understanding of the CrossFit methodology and CrossFit coaching
- Willingness to learn, receive feedback, and be coached
- Punctual, reliable, and professional in demeanor
- Current CrossFit Level 1 Certificate or higher required
- CPR/AED certification required
- Solid resume of training in a CrossFit affiliate
Schedule and Compensation:
- 15–20 hours per week (combination of a set consistent weekly group class schedule with additional hours for 1-on-1 training and Foundations sessions as scheduled/assigned)
- This is a paid W-2 position; pay is based on experience and credentials
