And He’s Off – The Basic School Bound

Most of you know Patrick Malone at the shop.  The friendly face that’s been a staple both on the shop floor and on the shop couch for the past four years is a welcome greeting to anyone who walks in to Roots.

It saddens us to say that he is leaving us for the east coast but we couldn’t be more proud of him and his next endeavor.

Pat is leaving to attend The Basic School for the United States Marine Corps.  A commissioned Marine Corps Officer, Pat made it through Officer Candidate School in the summer of 2011 and has since been waiting to head to Quantico, Virginia to begin his career.

Pat’s work and dedication to this goal was evident throughout his time at Roots – from his initial commitment to CrossFit and fitness for his PFT score and dialing in his nutrition and fueling to shed a few pounds to and his work to learn how to coach CrossFit for use one day with his Marines, Pat has set the bar high and achieved it.

Pat, from all of us at Roots – we are so very proud of you and wish you the best of times in the months ahead.

And we will miss you!

Patrick left for Office Candidate School in May of 2011. He had worked hard the previous year to prepare for the grueling 12-week course in Quantico, Virginia. He made it through the program and graduated in August. Above, CrossFit Roots throws down on the Marine Corps Physical Fitness Test as a send off for Pat.

Funny story – unrelated to today’s post (Good Luck Patrick!)
I was doing clean & jerks today in Oly, and cut my chin on a jerk. Here’s what happened when I showed my husband the cut.
Husband: “Ouch! Did you clean it?”
Me: “Of course, it was only like 75% of my max.”
*husband puzzled face* then hysterical laughter.

Pat – you are a stand-up guy. Thanks for help with the move and being so welcoming at the shop. You will be missed. Good luck at TBS. Keep getting stronger!
