CrossFit Open Wrap-up

The 2012 CrossFit Open season has come to a close.  The past five weeks at Roots have been exciting, motivating, and challenging.  We are so incredibly proud of all of the athletes that chose to participate in this international online competition.

Our very own (wild) Lisa took the time to write out her thoughts on and experience in the Open.

I signed up for the Open because I want to say yes to things rather than doubt my abilities and hide behind that doubt. CrossFit has helped me so much in all aspects of my life by saying yes to physical and mental challenges inside the gym. I have learned how many negative aspects of life I can conquer through the physical. Before the Open, I’d never gotten my toes anywhere NEAR the bar on a toes to bar rep. I’d never power snatched 75 lbs for a few (ugly) reps. I’d never kept doing burpees without rest for 7 minutes. I’d never done Karen with a 14 lb ball before and killed my previous time with a 10 lb ball by about 3 minutes (thanks 9 foot target). Would I have done any of these things on any given Wednesday 6 PM wod? Probably not. The environment that these Thursday throwdowns create is pretty inspiring. And, the thing is, the boundaries I pushed and the limitations I busted down over the past few weeks I’m convinced they were purely psychological. This is why I think the Open is important for folks of all levels and abilities. It’s completely inclusive, and it doesn’t matter where you stand on the leader board for those of us whose profession isn’t The Sport of Fitness. It’s about showing up and pushing yourself while surrounded by your pals, and learning something from the boundaries that you’ve pushed. I’m so glad I stepped out of my comfort zone and took part. It has been well worth it.

For those of you who were not able to make it to WOD 12.5 and the Spring Fling, here are the awards from the 2012 CrossFit Open at Roots.

I’ve known this kid since we were kids and he’s always been one of the strongest guys in the room.   Well done, Ben’O.
