South Side Walnut Cafe
Not too long ago a spunky and often grinning young woman named Julia joined the shop. The more she came to class the more I found out that she knew everyone, or rather, everyone knew her! And that’s because Julia is the owner of the South Side Walnut Cafe in south Boulder. If Cheers had a breakfast joint, this would be it. It’s the kind of place where everyone knows your name and where you instantly feel welcome and at home.
For those of you who haven’t been to the South Side Walnut Cafe, you’re missing out because it’s a Paleo breakfast super house. For example, you can swap your bread/grain based sides for MEAT! That’s a Paleo eater’s dream. How many times have you passed on the bread, potatoes, beans, rice, etc. only to have to pay extra to get more of the food you want? Finally, a restaurant that feels our pain!
In addition to the amazing side/meat swap-out, the atmosphere is killer – as in killer awesome. The servers have it down and even with our many Paleo requests, they get our orders right, every time. That’s a BIG deal with the number of tweaks, swaps, and requests I make AND pretty awesome considering the place is always bustling with people.
My personal favorite is that they serve the salsa warm. How brilliant is that? Makes my omelette that much better.
Recently, Eric and I have been on opposite schedules. A dinner date, even on the weekends, is most often out of the question. Our solution, breakfast dates, and South Side Walnut Cafe is our new favorite. It’s local, hip, and relaxing while simultaneously energizing.
I’ve been going to the South Side for 6+ years!! It is a great place, with terrific food and wonderful people. The South Side (restaurant and part of town) is the place to be!
SSide is MY FAVORITE spot…..I’ve been a loyal fan for years. And let it be known that Julia is an AWESOME baker, who makes some killer desserts. (For when birthdays call and the hunter-gatherers answer with cake. Once a year.)
Hella yeah! – Me and the wife are heading there now!
I was just there on Friday where I ran into Stefanie eating with a friend. I love it there! Now if only they could make their desserts paleo friendly because they are sooo good!
Oh I LOVE this place! Good post Nicole! I haven’t been in a while but I’m glad for the reminder, I will have to take my boyfriend soon as he doesn’t know much of Boulder. (I got him to join roots, btw! Marshall Hayes. : ) I’m really excited for him because I know he is going to absolutely love this program)
On another note I want to say- though yesterday’s 10k run scared the shit out of me I have actually been looking forward to today’s WOD for a week! And of course I’m sick as a dog still. Bah!! I call for open gym soon!! : D *wink, wink*
Love the SS Walnut Cafe – we go there quite often on the weekends when we are in town. Their coffee cake is *awesome*, although I’m sure there is no chance for a paleo version… (and no, I haven’t had it in a long time!)
I see that Nicole is sitting at the designated Coffee Cake Table! I go there often to fill my belly 🙂
Yeah – you gotta check Elden and I out on the cover of the menu. Upper right. We are probably there every weekend and Elden usually pays. So, come on by, he’ll pay (with your credit card of course!) . But, we’re usually out of there by 8:30… so…
just ate there this morning. New menu (look of it, content seems the same) and Elden and I aren’t on it anymore. But Jason and Andria are on it! So Roots is still representing.
Thanks for this post Nicole. I love it!
You put a skip in my step Wednesday.
And thanks for all the shout outs below.
I love our South Boulder community!
