Check out the article below which states that the U.S. government food recommendations over the past 30 years may have been wrong.
Carbs against Cardio: More Evidence that Refined Carbohydrates, not Fats, Threaten the Heart
“Eat less saturated fat: that has been the take-home message from the U.S. government for the past 30 years. But while Americans have dutifully reduced the percentage of daily calories from saturated fat since 1970, the obesity rate during that time has more than doubled, diabetes has tripled, and heart disease is still the country’s biggest killer.“
Thanks Tracie for sending us this interesting fact!
“71% of daily calories in average American diet are from refined sugars (19%), refined vegetable oil (17.8%), grains (24%) and dairy (10.6%)”
We will be meeting on Friday, 4:00pm at the Boulder High track for a CFE interval workout. See you there!
yes, yes… great article. i especially love the last line:
The next time you eat a piece of buttered toast, he says, consider that “butter is actually the more healthful component.”
Lets be clear:
“If you reduce saturated fat and replace it with high glycemic-index carbohydrates, you
maywill not only not get benefits—youmightwill actually produce harm,” Ludwig argues. We can only hope that this kind of knowledge is picked up quickly by mainstream community not just CrossFitters. People have a nasty habit of believing anything “Scientific” as long as enough people get behind it regardless of it’s validity. Great article, thanks for sharing.
In the spirit of sharing dietary info, have a look at this video pertaining to high fructose corn syrup and the low fat/high carb mistake. It is an hour long and can get technical (chemistry anyone) but it is really informative. – “Sugar: The Bitter Truth” – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBnniua6-oM&feature=player_embedded

Processed, grain-based, carbohydrates = diabetes served on a plate
Cane sugar is equally addictive as cocaine.
Dairy = cow puss
Did I go too far on the dairy comment? Sorry:)
Happy dinner time!
If you haven’t seen the video that Chris posted yet, check it out when you have time. It is really good.
Yeah, too far on the dairy comment Nicole-
I wasnt planning on watching a boring sugar is bad video for an hour, but the video is compelling scary and riveting. Grab some chips (well maybe not chips) hunker down and watch the video Sugar the bitter truth.
Yah, both interesting. I watched most of the video too (kinda skipped the chemistry part). Although I agree with the take-home message (limit sugar and processed carbs), his interpretation of some statistical analyses at one point was incorrect, which made me a little suspicious.
Great video, Dizon. It was so enthralling, I couldn’t put down my super big gulp Coke and king-size Snickers bar 😉
But seriously, I’m a total science geek so I love this kind of stuff.
That picture of Eric is awesome. I can’t believe you guys even went in one of those middle aisles at the grocery…they scare me.
