Meet Your Team!
CrossFit Roots finished 2nd in the 2014 Open in the Southwest Region but that means nothing now as the slate has been wiped clean and they enter the next round of competition – the CrossFit Regionals. On Friday they will start the 3-day Regionals competition in Sandy, Utah.
We’d like to take a moment to introduce you to your team. First up, the Men of your 2014 CrossFit Regionals team.
BLAINE GUENTHER
Blaine joined Roots in 2012 after he and his wife Alyssa moved to Boulder from Seattle. He’s a Civil Engineer for the Air Force but will be separating from the military this summer to attend Dental School at the University of Pennsylvania. Blaine started CrossFit in 2008 at Rainer CrossFit and he’s been moving heavy weight and getting better at breathing hard ever since. At 6’2″ and 224lbs Blaine occupies the “big guy” place on the team and helps keep Nicole on her toes in regard to all things strategy and programming. His wife Alyssa is also a member at Roots and has unofficially been voted “Best Hair” at the shop – it’s amazing. You can follow Blaine on Instagram @blaineg64 throughout the competition.
DAVID LEE (IRONDAVE)
At 21 years young, IronDave is the youngest teammate but brings the gameday focus of a veteran. Dave started CrossFit in the spring of 2011 and at Roots, quickly earned the nickname IronDave for his incredible abilities on the pull-up bar. AT 5’11” and 178lbs Dave is keeping the rest of the team on their toes as he reminds us of what is possible when you put yourself in the mindset that PRs are the norm! Dave comes to us from New York where his Mom, Dad, two sisters, and brother all live. In Colorado, Dave attends CU and works as an intern at Roots (you’ll see him working at the front desk soon!). Outside of CrossFit Dave is an accomplished rock and ice climber. Dave is currently single. You can follow Dave on instagram throughout the weekend @straightupkickin.
WALKER SAVIDGE
In 2010 CrossFit Roots did a special program for the Garmin cycling team’s top upcoming athletes. The workout was 8 minutes long and involved a 6 lb medicine ball and abmat sit-ups. Walker, then 30 pounds lighter, remembers how hard it was to throw that 6 lb ball all the way to a 10 foot target! Fast forward 4 years and Walker has rid himself of the 4 bands he used to use for kipping pull-ups! At 5’11” and 180 pounds he’s worked hard to become one of the most well-rounded athletes at Roots. Originally from Breckenridge, he graduated from the University of Colorado in 2013, but he still makes frequent trips home to visit his Mom and Dad. A full-time coach at Roots he heads up the CrossFit Endurance program as well as teaches group classes. When not at the shop, you can find him mountain biking. Walker is also currently single and you can follow him on instagram and Twitter @walkert_rowdy.
CHRIS DIZON (DIZON)
Dizon is a long time member of Roots – he started in March of 2010 – and has been a tremendous example of the fitness levels one can achieve through consistent and well-rounded CrossFit. At 44 years old he can always be counted on to keep the younger guys on their toes (not that you’re old Dizon!). Weighing in at 180 pounds and 5’10” he’s a lean, mean machine. But don’t be fooled, while he has a competitive drive, he also has a great approach the workouts and always seems to show up with a smile. You’ve probably seen the whole Dizon crew at the shop. His wife Melani attends the morning classes, his daughter Dylan is the original CrossFit Roots Kid, and their dog Tally can be seen chugging down water in the parking lot. When not at the shop Dizon is usually hanging with friends and playing outdoors.
Go Get it Guys!
Good luck in Utah!
