Resetting After Vacation
With summer comes vacation. With vacation comes eating out, eating at other people’s houses, having celebrations centered around food, and overall being in less control of what you have available to eat.
While vacation is the perfect time to give yourself the relaxation that you deserve – physically, mentally, and with what you put on your plate – it’s important to plan for the “return to normalcy” so all of those OK’ed vacation eats don’t become a habit once you come home.
The first step in preempting the post-vacation slide is to get to the grocery store. Having good food available to you in your house will help get you back on track and eating good clean food. Do it on the way home from the airport or on the drive back in to town!
Our trip home always involves a stop off at the grocery store for the clean food staples: eggs, apples, grapefruit, avocados, broccoli, 2-3 kinds of meat, spinach, brussels sprouts, salsa, and carrots.
This quick list provides us with enough good food to start off the week right. We can make breakfast and pack a quick lunch for the next day and throw together a quick ground beef stir fry for dinner within minutes of walking in the door.
While it’s easy to say, “Oh, I’ll eat this, after all, I’m on vacation” it does surprise Eric and I that with each vacation we’re a little bit better. We adhere to our Paleo principles a little bit stronger than the last time and come home with less of a hurdle to overcome to get back to our normal way of eating. We’re not perfect on vacation, but it’s definitely not a “free pass.”
Are those the rings just south of the Santa Monica pier?
Yup! It was AWESOME! We ended up teaching a muscle-up clinic on the spot. Hilarious.
Sweet!! There is a pull-up bar right near there where one can ride up right from the bike path. I used to ride down there from school and do a pull-up or five and then ride back to school. Just north of there, my buddy and I rode our junker bikes down the sand and into the ocean after finishing our last undergrad finals. That was a blast and a half…
You should have went to Venice Beach and showed up all those muscle heads!
