Welcome Megan!

We are excited to welcome Megan Buttner to the CrossFit Roots team as a substitute coach for group classes and the assistant Endurance coach on Wednesdays! She has been a member at Roots since 2018 and has experience as a gymnastics coach and personal trainer. Welcome, Megan!

Meet the Coach

How many years have you been CrossFitting? 3 years

Where were you born and raised? Born and raised in San Diego CA. Moved to Boulder because I thought it would be a beautiful place to go to College!!!

What’s your life story in four sentences? Wow… hard! My parents have always been my inspiration and models of hard work and determination, and immense love for family, the outdoors, and a healthy lifestyle. Sports have shaped my life – competitive gymnastics started for me around age 7 and continued through age 15 where I decided high school sports (volleyball, basketball, and track) might be more fun. My desire to continue competing brought me to the University of Colorado where I loved being a part of the track & field team (mostly pole vault), then to triathlons after college, and finally into more traditional lifting and then CrossFit. Currently, I LOVE being a part of my daughter’s pure enjoyment for anything physical, exploring the outdoors with my family, AND the positive influence I get to be in the lives of all the kids I coach in gymnastics!

Married, family, kids? Kinda married… actually been engaged for almost 10 years, I think that basically counts 🙂 We have one little curly-haired “baby” girl who you will see hanging out on the couches at Roots or running around between Roots and CATS.

What was your first CrossFit workout? Oh boy… I remember coming to Roots on a Thursday when you could “try” a class without being a member. Pretty sure it just had push-ups, pull-ups, and air squats (but I can’t remember exactly what it was???).

What is your favorite CrossFit workout?
I think I like them all, except anything with the AssBike 😉 Just Kidding… maybe “Kelly”. I love/HATE it. I like the longer workouts and if wall balls are going well, then I like to push my limits on that one!

What is your least favorite CrossFit workout? Anything with the AssBike!

What did you do as a career before coming to Roots? Gymnastics Coach and Personal Trainer.

What is your favorite CrossFit story? I can’t think of anything specific… just that I love working hard with people who want to be better every day and truly enjoy their time at “recess” at ROOTS!

When did you start coaching? I started coaching at CATS Gymnastics when I was a sophomore at CU (1999/2000 – a long time ago!)

What do you do for fun outside of CrossFit? Nothing! just kidding… I love hanging out with my family (camping, off-roading, skiing, swimming, walking the boys, enjoying the sun…), coaching the kiddos at CATS, and I hope to get back to running and cycling a bit more once the kid is in school.

Additional comments? I have loved being a part of the Roots community as a member! But I’m also super excited to get to know more members and push my limits as a coach… Roots’ staff are so amazing and I can’t wait to learn from the BEST!
