We understand that food and the way people eat is a very personal thing, almost like a religion. We invite you to learn about the way many of our athletes eat. We are always willing to share our own experiences and results from different diets. If you have any dietary restrictions please let us know; we are happy to discuss.

The diet that we recommend to our athletes is that used by CrossFit, Inc.:

Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise, but not body fat.

Essentially these two sentences are telling you: 1) what to eat; and 2) how much to eat.

WHAT TO EAT

Eat: meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch, and no sugar.

We subscribe to a whole food diet in a minimally processed form. Some may choose to include some dairy and/or grains, but the bulk of the diet comes from the aforementioned nutrient-dense sources.

What does that mean?

Buy food from the perimeter of the grocery store (except that bakery section!), buy food that has a shelf-life, buy food with no ingredient list.

Stay away from the stuff with ingredients you can’t pronounce and the items you couldn’t make in your own kitchen. Choosing whole food items also reduces intake of additives like sugars and vegetable oils (both found in most everything packaged!) that do not promote health.

Is This The Paleo Diet?

Paleo is certainly a movement we support because it ultimately pushes people towards eating a high-quality and minimally processed diet. However, we also support people eating items such as beans or ghee or even minimally processed grains (quinoa) if it suits them and their needs. For athletes with certain health conditions or concerns, an elimination diet such as complete restriction of grains, legumes, and dairy, and then reintroduction, can be a valuable tool to determine sensitivities.

For most of us, however, simply eliminating the processed food and eating nutrient dense plant matter (fruits, veggies, nuts, etc.) and high-quality meat at the majority of our meals will be the game changer.
