Go Paleo or Go Processed.

Last week we learned about The Paleo Diet from Dr. Loren Cordain.  The word Paleo comes from the word Paleolithic – as in the Paleolithic Era which dates back 2.5 million years ago before the advent of agriculture.  The Paleo Diet is a style of eating that mimics our ancestors.  For six weeks you’ll be required to hunt all of your food with bow and arrow and cook it on an open fire.  Ah ha!  You are paying attention. Read on for the real deal.

Really, the Paleo Diet is a style of eating that allows you to eat only the foods available to our  ancestors, so if a caveman could find or hunt it and eat it, so can you.  In short, you can eat meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. And that’s it!  When you question if a certain food is allowed, picture yourself as a hunter gatherer.  Hunting through the forest, you come upon a clearing and a giant 16″ pizza pie sits atop a boulder.  NO!  Grains – gone.  Dairy – no way (ever tried to milk a wild animal?).  Processed foods – ha.  Enriched, enhanced, or foods with additives – dream on.  Powders – should be used for magic tricks, not eaten as food.

For six weeks your challenge will be to eat nothing more than meat, vegetables, fruits, nuts, and seeds. You’ll go from a clogged gas guzzling hooptie to a clean burning well-oiled machine.
