Exercise as Potent Medicine
Ever referred to your workout time as the drug that keeps you sane? You might not be that far from the truth.
In a recent study, drugs and exercise were both tested for their ability to improve four diseases: heart disease, chronic heart failure, stroke or diabetes.
The study found that drugs and exercise produced almost the exact same results in reducing mortality.
I do agree that exercise is great medicine, and it has certainly kept me healthy and sane. I do however take exception to the BMJ’s article lumping all diabetics into the same group. There is a huge difference in cause and treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This article, and most people, when they talk about “diabetes” are referring to type 2. As a type 1 diabetic myself no matter how much exercise or how healthy we become from exercising we will never be able to stop using the prescribed medicine as this BMJ article suggests.
And, it is shocking, SHOCKING, that they did not compare the results of exercise vs. medical marijuana to treat insomnia and hunger pangs …
