Who is CrossFit Roots?

CrossFit Roots was founded in January of 2009 in a 200 square foot one-car garage. But don’t let our small beginnings underwhelm you. Fast forward five years and 9,800 square feet, and owner Nicole Christensen’s passion for coaching and dedication to the success of athletes and coaches has led to the creation of one of the most professional and state-of-the-art strength and conditioning CrossFit training facilities in the country.

At Roots, there are no gimmicks and there is no fancy facade. We are a clean, tidy, and professionally run facility that has everything you need to train hard and nothing more that would distract you from realizing that the combination of hard work, dedication, and community is the only pathway to achievement.

There are a number of things that set Roots apart

It’s easy to say you have experienced, dedicated, and knowledgeable coaches – to actually deliver on that is what sets CrossFit Roots apart.

At CrossFit Roots we have coaches. Our coaches and staff are the best at what they do. They hold numerous fitness certifications, including: CrossFit Level 1, 2, 3, and 4, USAW, and CSCS; and regularly attend seminars and courses to develop their abilities. The coaches meet weekly to develop and learn from one another and as well as from other fitness and medical professionals. What makes them stand out from the rest is their proven track record of helping athletes of every ability level grow, succeed, and develop day in and day out over many years. They make up the only coaching staff in the world with five CrossFit Level-3 trainers.

We believe that every athlete has untapped human potential and that everyone deserves world class coaching.

In order to deliver on a promise of world class coaching we had to commit to an environment that enabled the intimate athlete/coach interactions that allow for this.

Therefore, while the shop has grown in members over the years, we have kept our class size capped at 12 athletes.  We experimented with a 2 coaches to 24 athletes model and found the relationship was not linear.

Both our athletes and coaches feel that the coaching, instruction, and group interaction are all optimized in a 1:12 class size.

Our coaching and application is layered on a foundation that is 100% CrossFit.com

At Roots, we believe in the CrossFit programming methodology. We don’t sacrifice constantly varied programming because of workout complexity, equipment, movement difficulty, or class logistics. We make it work and our athletes are fitter for it.

There are so many things that make CrossFit Roots special. The community of athletes and their families, the training space, the coaches, the environment, and the many many success stories.

Why CrossFit Roots?

To us, CrossFit is organic health and fitness. It is pure and back to fitness basics, back to the roots. Trees have roots and trees are strong, they grow, adapt, survive, bloom, reseed, and outlast. This embodies the athletes we want to develop and mold at our shop.

CrossFit Roots is a return to the heart of athleticism.

What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is the principal strength and conditioning program for many police academies and tactical operations teams, military special operations units, champion martial artists, and hundreds of other elite and professional athletes worldwide.

Our program delivers a fitness that is, by design, broad, general, and inclusive. Our specialty is not specializing. Combat, survival, many sports, and life reward this kind of fitness and, on average, punish the specialist.

The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind. Our terrorist hunters, skiers, mountain bike riders and housewives have found their best fitness from the same regimen.
