Roots Crew –
Lately we’ve had quite a few no-shows without cancellations on MBO.  In a few instances, this has prevented an athlete from coming to a class.  We know that life (and shit) happens, but not every week.

Beginning in January, we will tighten down the cancellation and no-show policy. We will enact a 3 hour cancellation policy, meaning you must cancel 3 hours before the class for it not to be considered a late cancellation.

For limited memberships, we will no longer refund class credits for no-shows.  In the past, if you signed-up for a group class and did not show up, we hand canceled you out of the class which refunded a class to your monthly allotment of 12.

For the folks that have an unlimited membership, the penalty is slightly unclear because there is not a limited number of sessions, or incentive to cancel.  Some ideas are a $5.00 late cancellation fee put toward group functions (and charged to your account).  Another idea is for us to email the athlete who was unable to come due to the other athlete’s inability to cancel, just kidding, sort of.

We know that most of these instances are unintentional and simply putting a value on and raising awareness for the procedure will eliminate most of the occurrences.

It’s our gym, what do you think is a fair policy?  Post ideas and thoughts to comments.

100 Burpees would certainly be a good way to encourage cancellations… it would also encourage me to never sign up before 3 hours before the class… Although the class might already be full and then I’d slowly not ever make it back to the gym at all.

Money on the other hand benefits everyone. However if it was too much money it would drive the same behaviour as the burpees. Maybe make it a choice… money or burpees. No reason to drive people from the gym.

However, I still may not register until the day of a class now — then at least I’m not affecting anyone else and its just me who might screwed.

I know when I’ve signed up the day of I have never had a problem getting into the WOD…although I go in the evenings and it seems like the noon class is the one that gets full faster.

I vote for three strikes and you get a penalty – maybe a larger amount of $. That way you really penalize repeat offenders vs. one time mistakes.

Also, I would find it really helpful if MindBodyOnline sent me an email reminder letting me know I was registered for an upcoming class. It might trigger me to remember to cancel if something came up in the last 24 hours.

  4. I have always liked a $$$ penalty – maybe $3 to a party fund? Just enough to discourage no-shows, but not enough to break the bank.

No-shows IMO don’t show much respect for others who want to sign up for a class (when it’s full) or the gym. !Penalty!
