Your 2016 CrossFit Games Champions are Katrin Davidsdottir and Mat Fraser! Katrin is now reigning champ for 2 years straight and Mat put in a performance over the week that gave him the biggest lead in Games history going into the last day of competition.
If you’ve kept up with any of the behind the scenes videos on either of these two you know their motivations were strong coming into this season. Katrin wanted to prove that last year was no fluke and earlier this year her grandmother whom she was very close to passed away, so she used both to help push her to a higher level and give exercise a new meaning. Mat made it very clear that he never wanted the feeling of having the top spot taken from him again, as it was last year, and he made sure of that this year by building up a huge lead over the course of the week and never backed-off.
Castro and his huge team of judges and volunteers did not disappoint either. Workouts disclosed at the last possible minute, new pieces of equipment (the slug, sled, etc.) introduced, and retesting old weaknesses (pegboard) were all obstacles that competitors had to overcome to prove their fitness. All-in-all it was a fantastic display of fitness and entertainment, and as usual I look forward to seeing how the sport evolves over this year.
Did you watch any or all of the Games this year? What are your thoughts?
