Spring Fuel Challenge – Resources!
Alright folks, here is a great list of resources for your 30-day journey you’re about to embark.
Who has actually had success with this?
MANY Roots athletes have had tremendous success with a Paleo style of eating. JOIN US this Friday evening at 6pm for “Paleo Success – Three Roots Athletes Share Their Stories” – come hear from three Roots athletes on their experience with going Paleo. We’ll have an open Q&A at the end. Not doing the challenge but interested in hearing? Great! This is open to everyone.
Which foods can I eat?
It should be very clear as to which foods you can eat. If you’re still on the fence, here’s a link to a list.
Where can I get my blood taken?
The 9Health Fair is going on now! And most tests are free! GET YOUR BLOOD WORK DONE BEFORE (and after) DOING THIS CHALLENGE! Click here to find a location.
What are some good websites for recipes?
Everyday Paleo
Inherent Appetite – Shane’s blog! Be careful though, he’s not 100% Paleo, look over every recipe and ask questions if you’re not sure.
Do you have a list of the exact foods I can eat?
Yes, click here. If it’s not on this list, ASK before you eat it.
What if I have a question about a food or ingredient?
POST it to the comment board so that everyone can benefit from the answer.
I also love another site that Shane suggested: http://www.thefoodee.com/blog/. I’m completely addicted to this site and have tried many of the recipes, which are taken from Paleo-friendly blogs all over. Just looking at all the sites over the past few months has given me a good overview of what’s out there. Some crazy, some even more so…..but always entertaining!
Yes! check out my blog people, but as Nicole has already said not all the recipe’s are 100% Paleo, so read carefully and ask me anything you’re unsure about. For the most part I just add dairy (cheese) to some of my recipes. Here’s a list of some other great sites that I check regularly:

http://www.primaleatingmoderntable.com/
http://www.wholelifeeating.com/

Nicole, I thought you said during the info session that if your bacon or sausage or whathaveyou had evaporated cane juice or some other trace amount of sugar that it was fine so long as that was the only rule it broke. But the packet seems to have a no tolerance policy (“your bacon cannot contain sugar”). What’s the actual law?
Also, Shane, that apple, bacon & almond butter “sandwich” looks right up my alley.
Dave – good question. I will clarify explicitly in the Challenge email I am sending to all participants shortly.
In short:
For all SAUCES AND MARINADES
– if it is SOY/WHEAT/DAIRY/GLUTEN free BUT it contains “natural fruit juice sweetener” then you are ok. Again, if you are not sure, ask before using it.
For all meats – if the carbohydrate in the meat is 1 gram or less per serving, then you can have it.
For example, Applegate Farms bacon contains the following ingredients: Pork, Water, Sea Salt, Contains Less Than 2% Of The Following: Evaporated Cane Syrup, Celery Powder
It would be allowed in the challenge.
Again, ASK if you are not sure!
Thanks Dave!
another site with critical info regarding THE MOST IMPORTANT PALEO ENERGY SOURCE EVER is http://www.honeyisthenectarofthegods.com. Well, if it’s not there, it should be.
Thoughts on Chia seeds?…. Paleo or not? allowed in the Spring Fuel Challenge?
It’s a seed. Nuts and seeds are allowed. Dizon are you doing the challenge? I don’t have your info at all.
Chia Seeds are fine although all the nutritional benefit has turned out be more hype than proof. Just sayin’…
when you say “get your blood work done”, what particular levels are you interested in? The 9news health fair has a TON of “bloodwork” options.
It does! Just get a basic blood work that test for total Cholesterol, LDL, HDL, etc. as well as a fasting glucose test. If you can get any additional tests that expand on this information…go for it. And talk to them while you’re there, they should have some good recommendations.
Hi Nicole
I would like a buddy too!! Thi i’s definitely going to be a challenge for me.
In a side note if my dijon mustard says organic spices is that ok? Is vinegar ok?
Thanks for the help

I noticed Cashews on the Food List, a Nut or Legume, allowed or dis-allowed?
TYPO! No cashews. I took it off the list.
I’m dreading the answer to this, but: ketchup? Maybe there’s a brand without added sugar, but as far as I’m concerned, Heinz is the only acceptable ketchup to use on anything ever. So if Heinz is out, I’m ketchup-free for the first time since I could feed myself.
Dave – Here are the ingredients in Heinz ketchup:
INGREDIENTS: TOMATO CONCENTRATE FROM RED RIPE TOMATOES, DISTILLED VINEGAR, SUGAR, SALT, ONION POWDER, SPICE, NATURAL FLAVORING.
Sugar, not surprising.
You could make your own ketchup – I’m sure there are tons of recipes on the internet!!
Figured as much. Making my own might actually be fun. Who knew?!
