Hey Roots Crew! We dropped the ball on dishing out our ask for the parking arrangement at our new space.  Please do us a huge favor AND be great neighbors in our new community by helping us follow the parking arrangements we agreed to at our new spot.  Where can I park?  You can park immediately in front of CrossFit Roots. Think roughly 16 spaces on both sides of the parking lot in the area extends from our business.  Additionally, there is AMPLE parking along the street immediately in front of the entire building. And, there is also tons of parking on the south side of the building. All of that is fair game. Neither of these options is a “far walk” — use your fitness.  Where can’t I park? Please do not park in front of Slade Glass. Their employees need easy access to get in and out as...

Hey Roots Crew! Yesterday was nothing short of incredible. In just three short hours, you moved all of CrossFit Roots to our new home and temporary storage unit. I am forever grateful and a giant hurdle has been cleared. Thank you for showing up and for your enthusiasm. Yesterday was one for the books.  Here is some background and details on the next evolution of Roots!  As many of you know, finding a new place on short notice was super challenging. While our list of requirements is somewhat small – high ceilings, garage doors, and a place to go to the bathroom – this proved not easy to find! In the end, we opted for super high ceilings, sweet garage doors, and a great building with tons of potential over some other considerations.  We are insanely happy with our new space, and although it’s about 1/3rd smaller than our existing...

Dear Roots Crew,  I am thrilled (and relieved) to let everyone know that we have found a new home for Roots! The past five months have been a life-sucking ordeal and I want to thank you for your patience and support.  I would be lying if I said I didn’t have moments over the past five months where I doubted that there was any way this was going to work out. Between the rental market, the slow process of commercial real estate, the City requirements, the insane price of building materials and construction, and our ridiculous timeline, it seemed that maybe the universe was telling me something. But… Our new home is just over a mile southeast of our current location tucked back in a lovely office park. We’ll be neighbors with some other awesome longtime Boulder small businesses including Slade Glass Co. who started in Boulder in 1961. Our...

In the video below, psychiatrist Robert Waldinger talks about the importance of social relationships on our physical and emotional health. His TedTalk “What makes a good life? Lessons from the longest study on happiness,” Waldinger draws data from a 75-year-old study on adult development. The things that keep us happy and healthy throughout life are perhaps not what you might think. A lot of it boils down to the quality of the relationships we have. While watching the video, I couldn’t help but think about how the lessons he describes apply to our daily practice at CrossFit. The CrossFit class model, the simple act of coming to the gym, interacting with other humans in a small group setting, and void of any cell phones or social media during the hour, contributes to the development of happy, connected relationships. This may be as beneficial to our health and fitness as burpees,...
