In Search of the Thickest-Cut Bacon in Boulder

This might be the thickest cut of bacon we've found. It was purchased at Whole Foods. We're not sure if it qualifies as a slice given that it was so thick. It might have been a slab of bacon.

In Search of Thick-Cut Bacon

Let the search for thick-cut bacon begin!  Ok Roots, what restaurant in Boulder has the thickest-cut bacon? This is an important piece of information for any Roots athlete to have.

Here’s what we know so far, Foolish Craigs serves up some thick bacon.

    Ah bacon… the candy of meats.

    I’m sure Nicole will educate me as to why thick is better than thin, but in my estimation there is a trade-off. Cooked properly, thin bacon can crunch, then melt in your mouth like a delicious savory pastry. Additionally, it is better at staying crispy in the refrigerator, which is important if you cook ahead, then enjoy your bacon on tomorrow’s salad, or on top of your burger or inside your turkey wrap. That said, I find thin bacon to be way too labor intensive. I’m cooking volume for a big family, and thick-cut means less cycles on the griddle, or in the oven. So, I agree that thick is better than thin, but there is a point where bacon becomes too thick.

    Lately, I’ve been enjoying Wellshire’s Dry Rubbed, Thick Cut sold at whole foods. It is slightly less thick than that sold in their meat case. I find that it stays crispier in the refrig than the thicker Whole Foods case stuff. (I’m sending Nicole a picture of package with finished product if she wants to post it.)

  2. Hank! – no nutritionally based reason for thick-cut over thin-cut bacon, I just like it better. Searching for that ultimate brunch thick-cut bacon:)

    After eating at Foolish craigs for something like 100 days in a row – seriously, I know if u order it Extra Crispy- they deep fry it. Which I appreciate it.

    OOPS! We accidentally listed the Colorado Open as taking place August 20-21. It’s on August 28 and 29. The Happy Hour is scheduled for Friday, August 26th. For the Roots crew that is going to the Open – come mix, mingle, drink water – and let us celebrate your weekend ahead!

    So, I know that a Paleo eater may not choose to go to the Original Pancake House, but they do have very delicious, very thick cut bacon. YUM. While the pancakes are very tasty, they do have many other options are quite good too. Try it.
