The CrossFit Open at Roots

The Open starts in less than ONE WEEK.  Have you signed up? If not, GO HERE AND GET IT DONE. Now.  Please.

How will we do the Open at Roots?  Read below.

The Open workouts will be announced on Wednesday of each week.  They will be posted here on the CrossFit Games site when available.

Roots will host the Thursday Night Throwdown on Thursday nights from 4:30-6:30pm.  We HIGHLY encourage you to come check out these fun evening events.  Similar to the Benchmark Series, this month-long Thursday night event is not to be missed!  So, make it a date night, bring the family to watch and hangout, or just sneak away for an extra workout.

Athletes can come in anytime between 4:30pm and 6:30pm and put themselves into a heat.  We will run heats of athletes through the workout and collect scores to validate on the Open website.  This is a great way to up the adrenaline just a tad and have some fun this February and March.

Please note: the Open workout on Thursdays WILL ALSO be the workout for the entire day (so every group class will do the Open WOD).  We HIGHLY encourage you to come to the evening event as folks tend to do MUCH better in that environment.

Questions?  Post to comments.

    1. You can visit another local affiliate that is doing it on a different day.  Verve will be doing it on Friday nights and I am certain a number of affiliates will be doing it on Saturdays.  Email them in advance to see about a drop-in.

In addition, you can do the workout during Open Shop on Sundays; however, you will need to submit your performance through the video submission option and not the affiliate validation option.

CrossFit Roots will not validate any scores done at Open Shop on Sundays.  Everyone who would like to submit a score on Sunday will need to do it through video submission.

Okay….thinking about it!  I love a good throwdown.   Last question—what about scaling the WOD if we need to?  How does that work?

        1. Hi Stacey – Great questions!  We will absolutely scale the workouts as needed.  If you scale one week and not the next – no problem!  The Open WODs are designed to be much more inclusive than exclusive because of reps or weights or exercises.

This is my plea to all of you…please sign-up.  It will be a good time.  Promise.  And I know with out a shadow of a doubt that you will regret it if you don’t.

    1. Davis –

In the same way as last year, we will do everything we can to validate scores done during the group WODs; however, there is no guarantee.  Because all workouts and scores need to be validated by the affiliate (Roots) and therefore judged – we will validate scores only if there is sufficient judges available.

We have made arrangements to ensure we have enough judges to validate scores during the evening Open events.

For those who cant make the Thu Open WODs,  I would be happy to leave my FlipVideo camera at the gym for video submissions.

    Problem solved….. sign up!

All right… I will have to scale quite a few WODs and I am sure my points won’t help Roots much, but it’s Thursdays! – The best night of the week for me to work out – and I do love a big raucous workout party… I’m signed up.

I’m feeling kind of left out not having signed up… Is the last workout march 22? ( just wondering because I have spring break the next week and I’m pretty sure there’s no Crossfit where I am headed).
